Greytown artist, Nikki McIvor, feels an affinity towards the little ruru (morepork), who wakes when the stillness of night rises, kept company by the moon, calling out in the darkness. The pounamu that the morepork wears is the symbol for regeneration, which represents the return of native birds as indigenous bush is replanted.
