This is Kate Sheppard’s story, from being a feisty child brought up in Liverpool, immigrating to New Zealand, and settling – but not conforming – to life in Christchurch. It is also about how she galvanised the women in New Zealand to sign their names on a petition asking for the right to vote, and her determination to keep going with her telegrams, articles and talks after the Bill failed in Parliament two times; how she dealt with the opposition and how she finally won women the right to vote.
